Report on European digital media policy published by RISJ

One of my summer project on digital media policy options for the incoming European Commission has just been published by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at Oxford.

With co-authors Rasmus Kleis Neilsen and Madeleine de Cock Buning, we outline a number of media policy issues facing the EU, focusing on the future and promotion of independent professional journalism. My contribution was focused on the types of digital regulation (e.g the incoming Digital Services Act, as well as policy options meant to counter disinformation) that have (a) the chance to significantly impact the digital media environment in Europe, and (b) should be explicitly mindful of different levels of media freedom across the continent.

We wrote up a quick summary in The Conversation.
